Sheriff Zachariah Taylor Thompson

Zachariah Taylor Thompson was sheriff from 1886-1889. He was born in 1843 in Wayne County, Tennessee and died September 8, 1918 in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. He was the son of William J. Thompson and Ester Martha Parsley. The family was in Van Buren County by 1850. Mr. Thompson was a private in Company D, 31st Arkansas Cavalry (Confederate) from 1862-1864. He married Harriett Brooks in Van Buren County in 1866. He was a farmer and ran for sheriff in 1880 and 1882. He served two terms as sheriff and was in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory by 1900 where he was a traveling salesman.
